Advancing the Internet of Things: From Sensor Networks towards the full integration in the Cloud Edge Computing Continuum
The initial vision of the Internet of Things (IoT) involved tagging physical objects with RFID transponders. The concept has since expanded to include sensor networks able to provide real-time intelligence through local networks or global interconnections. Today cities are increasingly becoming augmented with sensors through public, private, and academic sector initiatives. As a result, IoT data have become crucial for training AI models and sustaining data-driven smart ecosystems.
Starting from an overview of the past and recent research activities related to the realization of the IoT, in this seminar the speaker's most recent research activity will be presented, specifically focusing on the integration of Long-Range Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN) into the emerging paradigm of Cloud Edge Computing Continuum. A complete secure solution will be presented on how to incorporate LPWAN architectures in CECC enabling faster data processing while guaranteeing service continuity and full-backwards compatibility.
